Elite Extra Edition autograph redemption #130 now has a name: Joba Chamberlain.
One of the industry's biggest mysteries finally has been solved now that Chamberlain has been identified as the subject of autograph redemption #130. Chamberlain, who will be pictured in his University of Nebraska jersey on his card, completed his signing for Donruss in early August.
He also signed a limited amount of Nebraska Collegiate Patches.
"Joba himself commented on how great those patches look," said Donruss Director of Marketing Scott Prusha. "We know it took some time, but getting this deal finalized and the items signed never ceased being a priority for us. Now we can begin the process of fulfilling the redemptions."
Card #130 became a mystery player when an original name on the 2007 EEE checklist had to be removed shortly before pack-out. Over the last several months, speculation has centered on who would appear on the card.
"We wanted a player whose autograph was valued in the industry, but also we were looking for a player not too far removed from the amateur ranks - high school or college," Prusha said. "We believe Joba fits that perfectly and is a great addition to the EEE set."
In related EEE redemption news, Donruss conducted an in-person signing session with Beau Mills - the first-round pick of the Cleveland Indians in 2007 - and those redemptions will be filled as soon as possible. The company is still waiting for the signatures of Chris Davis to begin fulfilling those redemptions, and representatives for the Texas Rangers' rookie told Donruss the signatures would be completed "very soon."
"We never stopped trying to get the Mills situation resolved," Prusha said. "It took longer than any of us wanted, but it got done and we'll be fulfilling those immediately. And once we get the Davis signatures, those will begin shipping just as fast as we can get them out."
