Patriots Are Perfect
December 30, 2007

Saturday night, the New England Patriots became the first team since the 1972 Miami Dolphins to go undefeated in a single season. In a close win over the New York Giants, the Patriots finished the season a perfect 16-0. They head into the post season with the weight of the world on their shoulders since the Dolphins went undefeated and then won the Super Bowl.

"A few football fans believe that the Patriots have to run the table and win the Super Bowl to be mentioned in the same sentence as the Miami Dolphins," said Donruss Marketing Director Scott Prusha. "In this day and age - with the salary cap, free agency and a longer schedule, its pretty impressive what they were able to accomplish."

The Patriots also broke a few records along the way. Tom Brady took down the touchdown record by throwing his 50th TD pass to Randy Moss, breaking the record previously held by Peyton Manning. That TD just happened to also be Moss' 23rd, one more than the record Jerry Rice set back in 1987.

Adds Prusha, "Whether they win the Super Bowl or not, what they did this year was amazing!"

Other Patriots to take note of:

  • Wes Welker finished with 112 catches for 1, 175 yards and eight touchdowns.
  • Donte' Stallworth finished with 46 catches for 697 yards and three touchdowns.
  • Laurence Maroney finished with 835 yards rushing and six touchdowns.
  • Mike Vrabel finished with 77 tackles, 12 sacks and scored two touchdowns on offense.
  • Teddy Bruschi finished with 92 tackles and two sacks.
  • Asante Samuel finished with six interceptions and returned one for a touchdown.
